COMICSHINE JOURNAL

Write comic dialogue that fits the frame

Keep captions clear, avoid crowded bubbles, and check your comic on a phone before export.

Quick answer

Use one idea per speech bubble. Keep dialogue separate from the illustration so spelling, translation and placement can be changed without regenerating the artwork.

Let the picture do some of the work

A caption can establish time or place; a bubble can carry a character’s voice. Remove words that merely repeat what the image already shows.

Keep text editable

Text rendered into an AI image is difficult to correct. Store captions as text with placement metadata and render them above the image in HTML or during export.

Check reading order and line breaks

Read top to bottom and left to right for the default four-panel layout. Use shorter captions on small screens. Arabic interface direction does not automatically change your comic’s reading order.

Export a proof

Download a PNG and inspect the actual file. Browser print-to-PDF is useful for a draft, but professional printing needs a backend export with the required size, resolution, bleed and font embedding.
